Volvo Truck UK recently visited FSEW Cardiff to film and interview the Managing Director Geoff Tomlinson and Assistant Transport Manager Leon Deane about FSEW’s decarbonisation journey, and the pivotal role the Volvo FM Electric fleet is playing in that transition.

FSEW is proud to celebrate its ongoing partnership with Volvo Trucks UK & Ireland as we continue moving towards a fully decarbonised fleet. Their visit captured how the Volvo FM Electric is reshaping our day-to-day operations, improving efficiency, and proving that large-scale electrification in logistics is not only possible but already happening and the results speak for themselves.

Geoff reflects on the lessons learned to date, highlighting the most significant one: transitioning to   electric HGVs is absolutely achievable, far more straightforward and is achievable now. After introducing the first Volvo FM Electric trucks in 2024, their performance and reliability quickly prompted FSEW to order additional units, reinforcing confidence in the technology and the  partnership.

Leon offers a driver’s-eye view, explaining that the  Volvo FM Electric delivers everything required for demanding logistics operations. Charging breaks integrate naturally into standard driver rest periods, enabling seamless route planning and efficient utilisation across the fleet.

Our drivers have embraced the move to a state-of-the-art electric vehicle, and our transport team continues to see strong, consistent performance in real-world conditions. Smooth handling, dependable range, and predictable charging have made the FM Electric a powerful and practical asset to our fleet.

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the future of low-carbon transport.
