In a landmark moment for sustainable freight, FSEW has officially become a diesel-free operator. As of December 2024, the business now runs a 40-strong fleet powered entirely by electric and biomethane (CNG) fuelled trucks, marking a huge step forward in the decarbonisation of freight transport.

With the addition of four new CNG-fuelled Iveco S-Way trucks, FSEW’s fleet now consists of:

  • 5 fully electric trucks
  • 35 CNG-fuelled trucks running on 100% biomethane

This milestone is the result of a bold commitment made five years ago by FSEW’s Managing Director, Geoff Tomlinson, to eliminate diesel from the fleet by 2025. Today, that vision is a reality.

8.5 million diesel miles eliminated

Since introducing alternative-fuelled vehicles in March 2022, FSEW has:

  • Completed 8.5 million miles without diesel
  • Run 284,214 miles on electric power
  • Logged 6.5 million miles on biomethane (CNG)
  • Shifted 1.65 million miles to rail transport

Each of these miles represents a step towards a cleaner, greener future for freight, and for the communities we operate in.

One of our main routes through Cardiff has four schools. Making the roads cleaner for future generations is critical, and we’re proud to play our part in achieving this.

Decarbonising freight – a call to action

While this achievement is a significant milestone, FSEW knows that true change requires industry-wide collaboration. As the UK’s only freight decarbonisation specialists, we’re committed to:

  • Helping businesses cut carbon emissions across road, rail, sea and air freight
  • Sharing our expertise to accelerate sustainable freight adoption
  • Pushing the industry forward by proving that net-zero freight is possible

We can’t do this alone. That’s why we’re committed to sharing our journey and helping the freight sector make sustainable transport the norm.

– Geoff Tomlinson

The future of freight is here

Headquartered in Freightliner, Wentloog, FSEW has grown from a customer-focused freight forwarder in 2002 to a pioneering force in net-zero transport, employing 90 people and operating 40 sustainable trucks.

With the elimination of diesel, we’re not just making freight cleaner, we’re proving that a fully decarbonised supply chain is within reach.
