FSEW, the global freight forwarding decarbonisation specialist has put Maesteg-based Siderise on the road to becoming the first exporter in the UK to achieve net zero logistics operations using Greenflow - an innovative new service using FSEW’s fleet of electric trucks and maritime insetting.
This is a landmark strategic sustainability partnership, which is transforming the UK’s international freight and paving the way for a more sustainable future and a significant reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) emissions.
FSEW’s innovative Greenflow service is an industry first that allows clients to ship to and from anywhere in the world whether it is by road, rail, air or sea net zero. It will make a major impact to those companies that will need to meet a reduction in Scope 3 targets. Siderise is the first to sign up to Greenflow and has already been successfully exporting containers, net zero, from the firm’s Maesteg base to Jebel Ali Port in Dubai.
Siderise, is a global expert in the design, manufacture, and supply of high-performance passive fire protection solutions for the construction industry. The first journey of 14 containers has already been completed from Siderise to Jebel Ali Port, net zero, using FSEW’s electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks to Southampton and maritime insets for the sea freight to Jebel Ali Port in Dubai. FSEW is the first freight forwarder in the UK to offer this service using fully electric trucks for the UK freight route.
Geoff Tomlinson, MD at FSEW explained: “For its scale, structure and strategic importance, Greenflow sets a new benchmark for sustainability in international freight. It’s helping Siderise to reduce Scope 3 emissions, forming a key part of their sustainability strategy. To date, containers transported on this route would normally have generated around 20 tonnes of CO2e emissions if moved using diesel trucks and conventional marine fuel, but instead achieved a 100% net reduction through the use of electric HGVs and externally certified marine inset certificates. This is a first for FSEW and Siderise and shows how UK businesses are leading the sustainability agenda in this field. We were thrilled to be able to optimise this service to meet their needs without additional costs. I look forward to seeing where our collaborations take us next.
Siderise operates across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, India, Asia Pacific and the US, with a clear focus on delivering world-class customer service. It’s a fantastic endorsement of Greenflow and its credibility. We’re showing that net zero freight transport is possible in the international supply chain, aligning with business sustainability targets. It’s a game changer because we’re the first general freight forwarder in the UK to offer this kind of certified carbon reduction that customers can use in their Scope 3 reporting. Siderise has ambitious GHG reduction targets, and we are excited to work with one of Wales’s leading global businesses to help them achieve this.”
Sera Turkoglu, ESG Manager at Siderise added: “At Siderise, we have set an ambitious target to achieve net zero in our own operations by the end of 2030. However, as most of our carbon footprint falls under Scope 3 emissions, it is essential for us to act across our value chain.
“Our partnership with FSEW and the adoption of its Greenflow solution allows us to make tangible, measurable progress in decarbonising our international freight. The introduction of electric trucks also helps reduce noise pollution in Maesteg and the surrounding areas where we operate, creating a cleaner and quieter environment for our local community.
Being the first company in the UK to take this step in implementing this initiative is a proud moment – a strategic move toward reducing our indirect emissions and demonstrating that innovation and collaboration can accelerate the transition to a net zero future.”
